Herbicide Registrations in Tree and Vine Crops (CA 2010)

Oct 24, 2010

I am a Cooperative Extension Weed Specialist at UC Davis and decided to start this blog as a bit of an extension experiment.  Technology changes have given us new opportunities to share knowledge and I thought I’d join in the fray – we’ll see where it leads!

Some people may not know what a CE Specialist does (I wasn’t either before becoming familiar with the UC system).  In my version of the job, I conduct applied research in weed management and ecology and extend this information to farmers and other folks in production agriculture.  In many other University systems, I would be a Professor with a Research and Extension appointment (I do not have a teaching appointment).

My research program currently focuses on control of weeds and soil born pests using both chemical and non-chemical approaches.  However, at this point it definitely leans towards chemistry!  I work primarily in tree and vine crops and in perennial crop nurseries although I dabble in other crops occasionally.

I recently updated the attached “Herbicide Registration on Horticultural Tree and Vine Crops – Oct. 2010”.  This is a thumbnail sketch of herbicides registered for use in California on tree and vine crops.  I spent a day or so reading through herbicide labels (fun times!) – if you decide to use any of the herbicides shown in this table, you should also read the label (the ever-present disclaimer).
